Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Red lacquer furniture became prominent during the Ming and Qing dynasties, crafted using layers of natural sap from the Toxicodendron vernicifluum tree. Low tables, historically known as kang tables, were designed to sit on raised heated platforms within traditional Chinese residences.

Craftsmen utilised mortise and tenon joinery without nails or glue, allowing the timber substrateoften elm or pineto adapt to seasonal changes. Multiple coats of sap-based lacquer pigmented with cinnabar were applied over woven fabric ground layers to build a protective finish.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural craquelure, age-related shrinkage around frame joints, and uneven wear where the underlying ground coat or timber is exposed. Hand-carved framework and traditional unnailed joinery further indicate period origin.

A low lacquer table functions as a central coffee table or low accent surface in contemporary interior settings. Positioned alongside neutral upholstered seating or modern minimal decor, the architectural frame and patinated surface provide visual contrast.

Maintain stable humidity levels and keep the piece away from direct sunlight or radiator heat to prevent wood movement and lacquer flaking. Dust gently with a clean dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical polishes and excess moisture.
