English Staffordshire Blue & White Tureen C1830

Description

This ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE BLUE & WHITE TRANSFER PRINTED TUREEN & COVER dates from circa 1830.

It is decorated with a Chinese-inspired scene as conjured up by the Staffordshire Potter's imagination. It is unmarked.

There are no cracks or restoration. There is an old, thin surface chip to the underside of the lid and some small glaze nicks to the ladle aperture and the rim.

This Georgian earthenware tureen comes from circa 1830 in the Regency style, finished in white ceramic with blue transferware decoration. The body and cover display an intricate Chinoiserie landscape scene featuring oriental buildings, palms, figures, and water, complemented by elaborate floral border patterns along the rim and lid. Two curved side handles emerge from the main bowl, while the matching domed cover is topped with an upright loop finial. The vessel sits upon a circular raised pedestal foot, presenting an aged ceramic surface complete with small glaze nicks to the rim and an old, thin surface chip on the underside of the lid.
