Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III wine table is a compact accent table produced during the reign of King George III (17601820). Typically featuring a tripod base and a central turned column, these tables were designed to be lightweight and easily moved around living spaces for serving drinks or holding candles.

18th-century tripod tables were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, oak, and occasionally yew. Cabinetmakers employed hand-carved joinery, including dovetail joints at the block and hand-lathed columns, to secure the three cabriole legs to the central support.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-saw marks underneath the tabletop, natural shrinkage across the grain, and hand-cut dovetail or peg construction. Yew wood displays distinct irregular grain patterns, burrs, and a deep, oxidised tone developed over centuries.

A Georgian tripod table functions effectively as an occasional side table next to a sofa or armchair. Its compact footprint allows it to fit into small alcoves, hallway corners, or beside a bed, serving as a functional surface for table lamps or books.

To preserve yew wood, clean the surface with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and uneven colour fading.
