Description

This Inlaid Oval Satinwood Occasional Table is very attractively enhanced by the clever use of inlay. The segmented top with contrasting line inlay, leading to crescent segments, topped off with a darker contrasting crossbanding is a joy on the eye.

The elegantly tapered legs are themselves inlaid with lines, banding, and contrasting oval panels at the top of each leg. The legs are themselves finished off with a brass square cup castor. There is further inlay in the side rails too.

The satinwood is a glorious warm hue, and this table is both very stylish as well and being of a useful size.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Satinwood furniture gained prominence during the late 18th century in the Neoclassical period and experienced a significant revival during the Edwardian era, known for its pale, golden lustre and fine grain.

These pieces typically feature a satinwood veneer applied to a secondary timber substrate, accented with contrasting stringing, such as rosewood or ebony, and intricate marquetry or parquetry patterns.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut veneers, natural ageing and oxidisation of the timber, traditional joinery methods such as dovetails or dowels, and hand-applied shellac or wax finishes.

The piece works effectively as a contrasting accent beside minimalist seating or against neutral walls, allowing the complex wood grain and marquetry to serve as a focal point.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent fading and veneer cracking, maintaining the surface with periodic applications of microcrystalline wax.
