This Edwardian occasional table stands on four slender square tapered legs joined by a sturdy H-stretcher. The rectangular top displays a rich brown surface set within a patterned border of light and dark wood stringing, finished with a decorative bead moulding along the outer edge. The mahogany timber exhibits a warm reddish-brown tone throughout, accented by delicate satinwood and boxwood inlay along the frieze. Measuring 69 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, this piece serves well as a side table positioned at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room or study to hold a lamp, book, or cup.

Edwardian furniture, dating from roughly 1901 to 1910, is characterised by lighter, more delicate proportions than preceding Victorian pieces. It frequently drew inspiration from 18th-century English styles, incorporating fine wood veneers, classical lines, and delicate inlay work.

Cabinetmakers during this period favoured solid mahogany and satinwood veneers. Decorative elements commonly included geometric stringing, checkerboard inlay, and ebony or boxwood banding along table edges and legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise joinery, such as hand-cut dovetailed joints, thin timber veneers, and uniform patination. The underside of the table often shows aged timber with hand-planed or light saw marks rather than modern machine sanding.

A slim occasional table functions effectively beside a modern sofa or armchair to hold lighting or beverages. Its warm mahogany tones create visual contrast when set against neutral wall colours or contemporary soft furnishings.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice a year along the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and sudden humidity fluctuations to prevent veneer lifting or surface cracking.
