This Edwardian oval centre and window table dates from around 1900 and is made from satin walnut with a warm brown timber colour and brass hardware. The top surface displays a central marquetry medallion depicting musical instruments, surrounded by a finely crossbanded border, above a lower tier shelf and four swept legs terminating in brass castors with visible age wear, historic marks, knocks, cracks, repairs, alterations, and extinct treated woodworm holes. The piece measures 71 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 55 cm deep. It serves well as an occasional table placed in a bay window or living room to hold lamps, plants, or books in a traditional English country house interior.

FAQs

An Edwardian Sheraton Revival window table is a compact occasional table produced around 1900, characterised by neoclassically inspired marquetry, slender proportions, and light-toned timber like satinwood.

These tables typically feature solid timber frames veneered with satinwood or walnut, decorated with crossbanded borders, boxwood stringing, and central marquetry panels depicting classical instruments or foliage.

Authentic pieces feature genuine wood veneer marquetry rather than printed patterns, precise hand-fitted joinery on lower tiers, period-correct brass castors, and natural wear consistent with timber age.

An inlaid occasional table functions effectively in an entry hall, beside a reading armchair, or within a bay window to provide surface area and architectural texture.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting, dust regularly with a dry soft cloth, and apply neutral beeswax sparingly to maintain the finish.
