This small serving platter is a stunning example of elegant Meissen porcelain. They are beautifully hand painted British birds and insects. This porcelain came from an aristocratic English house, and is circa 1850.

Meissen porcelain originated in Saxony in 1710 as the first European producer of hard-paste porcelain. Serving platters and tableware produced by the manufactory frequently incorporated hand-painted botanical studies, wildlife motifs, and distinct relief-moulded borders such as the Osier pattern.

Authentic pieces are made from true hard-paste porcelain, formulated from kaolin clay and feldspathic rock. Decorative elements are applied using overglaze enamel paints and burnished gold leaf gilding around the rim.

Authenticity is primarily verified through the underglaze blue crossed swords mark on the underside. Additional indicators include hand-painted enamel details, impressed numbers, and fine moulded relief patterns along the rim.
