Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A specimen marble paperweight is a nineteenth-century decorative object comprising various polished mineral samples inlaid into a primary substrate, often Derbyshire black marble or slate. These pieces originated as educational geological samples and souvenirs during the Grand Tour era.

Craftsmen utilised a substrate of dense black marble, slate, or limestone, cutting geometric or organic recesses to house polished slices of agate, malachite, jasper, fluorite, and regional marbles bonded with natural resin adhesives.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-cut inlay joints with slight irregularities, subtle natural wear or micro-chipping along the edges, and aged underside surfaces that show hand-tooling rather than modern machine sanding.

A specimen marble paperweight can be placed atop a stack of design books on a coffee table, styled on a wooden executive desk, or displayed within a brass-framed shelving unit alongside geological specimens.

Clean the surface gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth to avoid dislodging small stone inlays. Avoid acidic cleaners, abrasive chemicals, and excess water, which can damage natural polished stones and erode old adhesives.
