This Victorian centre table dates from the nineteenth century and is constructed from walnut and ebonised wood in a warm brown colour. The rectangular top features a Greek key inlay and moulded edges, sitting above an inlaid apron accented with dark ebonised mounts at the corners. Support comes from twin fluted columns standing on carved scroll feet, joined near the base by a central turned stretcher with decorative ring turnings and a central finial. The piece measures 73 cm high, 134.5 cm wide, and 68 cm deep in practical terms. Suitable for placement in a gentleman's library, study or living room, the table provides a substantial flat surface for books, lamps or decorative objects. Its traditional proportions allow it to stand freely in the middle of a room or against a wall, bringing period character and functional workspace to a home interior.

A 19th-century centre table is a freestanding piece of furniture finished on all sides, designed to stand in the middle of a room, hallway, or library rather than against a wall.

Victorian centre tables were typically crafted from solid walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, frequently incorporating decorative veneers, ebonised accents, and turned or carved stretchers for structural rigidity.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-cut joinery, original patination on the timber underside, hand-applied inlaid stringing, and natural wear consistent with age around the stretchers and feet.

Place the table in an entryway or open-plan living space as a focal anchor, styling the surface with sculptural ceramics, stacked art books, or a singular botanical arrangement.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage.
