Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Pinned brass moulding around the edges: early twentieth-century French cabinet making.
Geometric cube parquetry on the top: skilled veneering on a shaped ground.
Cast brass mounts and foot sabots: period fittings with soft age in the hollows.
Neatly dovetailed drawer box: solid cabinet work beneath the veneered front.

This French occasional table from 1920 is styled in the Louis XV manner and constructed from dark brown mahogany with marquetry inlay and ormolu mounts. The piece stands on swept cabriole legs ending in cast brass toes and includes an undertier shelf, a shaped top, and cast brass mouldings. Practical dimensions measure 71 cm high, 68.5 cm wide, and 48 cm deep. Placed at the end of a sofa in a living room or sitting area, the table provides a surface for a lamp or small decor items while offering lower storage space on the undertray. The dark wood finish combines with decorative gilt metal highlights to suit traditional interior settings.

The Louis XV style, emerging in 18th-century France, is characterised by Rococo influences including asymmetrical ornamentation, serpentine silhouettes, flowing cabriole legs, and decorative gilt-bronze mounts known as ormolu.

Craftsmen predominantly utilized hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and kingwood for veneer and solid components, accented with marquetry or parquetry inlays and cast chiseled bronze mounts.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, cast bronze mounts secured with early thread screws, natural timber oxidation on the undersides, and irregular wear consistent with age.

Position the table beside a modern tailored armchair or sofa to create an eclectic contrast, or place it in an entryway to hold small decorative objects.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the timber, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources.
