19thc French Mahogany Gueridon Occasional Table

19th century
For Sale by Andros Antiques
Description

This 19thC French Mahogany Gueridon Occasional Table has a sophisticated style to it. Being of a triple column design with a trefoils platform base all of which is veneered in figured Mahogany, of a good rich colour that works so well with the gilt mounts. The mounts themselves are very finely chased and show crisp detailing.

The dark grey mottled marble top adds a degree of usability to it, providing a good-sized surface area. This table would work well in both a traditional or more contemporary interior design.

Presented in excellent restored condition, the only thing to note is that the marble top has a historic repair to it.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century France, a gueridon is a small, round accent table typically supported by one or more central column legs, often featuring a marble top and ornamental metal collars or mounts.

Authentic 19th-century French gueridons commonly feature solid or veneered mahogany, native grey or white marble slabs, and gilt-bronze collar accents and mounts.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-finished marble undersides, solid dense mahogany with original patina, structural hand-cut joinery underneath, and detailed cast gilt-bronze collars.

Position the table alongside contemporary seating, within a hallway alcove, or beside a reading chair to create visual contrast between traditional polished timber and modern clean lines.

Maintain the mahogany base by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and applying natural beeswax polish periodically, while wiping the marble surface with a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent etching.
