Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early Victorian centre table is formed of solid mahogany in a warm brown tone with visible wood grain across the rectangular top. The piece displays a moulded edge to the top surface, double-ended trestle supports, turned bun feet, and a ring-turned central stretcher rail connecting the vertical uprights. Measuring 74 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, it provides a compact surface for everyday placement. Traditional proportions allow this table to function effectively as a side table, lamp table, or hallway console within an English country house or period interior. The warm timber finish complements classic and neutral domestic schemes while offering a practical display surface for daily household use.

FAQs

Early Victorian centre tables emerged during the 1830s to 1850s as central decorative furnishings for drawing rooms and entrance halls. Unlike wall-adjacent console tables, these pieces were crafted with finished woodwork on all sides to allow placement in open space.

Primary timber choices included solid mahogany, rosewood, and walnut, often featuring book-matched veneers on the tabletop. Construction techniques relied on hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, dovetailed drawer linings, and turned timber stretchers.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-saw marks on underside surfaces, natural age-related patination, and period-correct brass or wooden castors. Look for solid timber construction and traditional joinery methods rather than modern screws or synthetic adhesives.

Place the table in an entrance foyer as a central focal point, or behind a sofa as a room divider. It can also serve as a compact home office desk or window table in traditional and eclectic interior schemes.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timber finish. Avoid placing timber tables near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent drying and fading.
