A rare Regency mahogany deception table, the rectangular top with a moulded edge and a conventional drop leaf to the one side, and a fall front to the other side disguised as a drop leaf, released with brass release buttons to either side and brass quadrant stays; raised on slender turned tapering legs. Almost certainly made by Gillows. A design for a ''Deception'' table appears in the Gillow Estimate Sketch Books for June/July 1787, (Westminster City Archives 94/44-5) and a related type of deception table (L. Boynton, (ed.), Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 28).
