Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This nineteenth-century Regency serving platter originates from the Mason's factory around 1830. Constructed from ironstone with a white glazed finish, the piece exhibits a multi-coloured hand-painted chinoiserie motif in blue, orange, yellow, pink, and green enamel, featuring a flying bird, blossoming trees, and floral sprays within an octagonal rim. Integrated drainage channels and a well are moulded directly into the surface for practical carving use. The physical dimensions measure 48 cm in length, 35 cm in width, and 6.5 cm in height. Ideal for display upon a sideboard top, this platter provides a functional serving accessory for substantial feasts or family gatherings in an English country house interior.

FAQs

Patented in 1813 by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire, Masons Patent Ironstone is a dense, vitreous earthenware developed as a durable British alternative to expensive imported Chinese porcelain.

These platters were produced from a heavy earthenware body containing slag, flint, and clay, fired at high temperatures and often designed with molded tree-and-well channels to drain juices during carving.

Authentic early pieces demonstrate substantial visual mass, underglaze transfer printing embellished with hand-painted overglaze enamel colours, and impressed or transfer-printed makers marks on the underside.

Large ironstone platters can be displayed upright on a plate stand atop a sideboard, wall-mounted as part of a ceramic gallery wall, or placed flat as a central surface tray on a table.

Platters featuring overglaze enamels should be hand-washed using warm water and mild liquid detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges, automatic dishwashers, and prolonged immersion.
