Gilt and Gesso has dated this Renaissance Velvet Embroidered Panel to the 17th Century.
A fine quality and rare panel on linen, presented in mostly very good condition with obvious evidence of timeworn wear whilst retaining excellent vibrancy and colour.

Typically such textiles will be from noble families in Venice or Florence, decorative wall panels or fragments of curtains and bed pelmets etc.., often known as orphrey bands, liturgical fragments.
Because of their immense material value and artistry, historical workshops in cities like Florence, Venice, and Lucca designed them for high-ranking courtiers, aristocratic interior furnishings, or ecclesiastical, Catholic Church use.
