Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian coffee table takes the form of an octagonal low table in warm brown burr walnut. The top displays a highly figured burr walnut veneer with a central marquetry inlay panel, bordered by dark ebony and light boxwood banding. Beneath the top, four turned and carved columns descend to swept walnut supports with matching inlaid detail, terminating in floral carved toes, brass fittings, and porcelain castors. Suitable for a living space in an English country house or a traditional townhouse, the table provides a central surface for drinks, books, or decorative objects. Placed before a sofa or in the middle of a seating arrangement, it serves as a functional and period-appropriate focal point in a sitting room.

FAQs

Victorian burr walnut furniture is characterised by the figure-rich veneer sourced from walnut tree growths, featuring intricate swirling grain patterns often accented with floral marquetry inlay during the mid-to-late 19th century.

These tables typically feature solid hardwood frameworks decorated with burr walnut veneers, ebony or boxwood stringing, and floral marquetry inlays carefully pieced together by hand.

Authentic period pieces display natural age-related patination, hand-cut joinery underneath, fine thin wood veneers rather than modern laminates, and genuine wear patterns on the base and feet.

Incorporate the rich timber tones as a warm central focus alongside contemporary upholstered seating, minimalist ceramics, and neutral textiles to balance the ornate woodwork.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or cracking.
