This early 19th-century English centre table displays the grand Regency style, rendered in warm brown burr oak with a circular tilt-top. The richly figured timber grain shows deep natural patination, supported by a central turned pedestal adorned with carved gadrooning. The structure rests upon a tri-form plinth base that terminates in bold carved feet fitted with brass castors. Standing at 72 cm high with a width and depth of 129 cm, the proportions suit a central placement in a formal reception room or a spacious entrance hall as a display surface. In daily use, the large round top provides a functional platform for lamps, decorative bowls, or books. The heavy timber construction ensures stability, while the tilt-top mechanism allows the surface to fold away against a perimeter wall when floor space is required. The combination of figured burr veneers and traditional carving integrates well into period interiors and eclectic modern settings alike.

Originating prominently during the Regency period, centre tables were designed to stand in the middle of a room or grand hall rather than against a wall, serving as both a functional surface and a visual anchor.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilized native and imported hardwoods such as oak, burr oak, mahogany, and rosewood, frequently incorporating decorative veneers, hand-turned pedestals, and carved triform plinths.

Authentic period pieces display traditional hand-cut joinery, original brass castors beneath the feet, slight natural shrinkage to the timber circular top, and highly figurative grain patterns unique to natural burr oak veneer.

Position the table centrally in a spacious entrance hall with a single large ceramic vessel, or utilize it as a compact circular dining table in a formal dining room.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain once or twice a year to preserve the patination.
