This pair of large antique bisque porcelain figurines from 1880 depicts a young lady and gentleman in Rococo Revival style. Modelled in matte bisque porcelain with pigment and gold leaf accents, the figures showcase a pastel pink and white palette with pale blue detailing, floral elements on the bodice and hat, ruffled skirts, a feathered hat, and gilded chains and dagger. They stand upon rocky bases measuring 40.6 cm high, 13.3 cm wide, and 15.2 cm deep. Suitable for display in a traditional interior, these decorative ornaments bring a refined French Chateau aesthetic to a mantelpiece, side table, or glass-fronted cabinet in a living room or study. The figures exhibit delicate moulding and hand-painted details on their historical costumes, presenting a classic addition to a collection of nineteenth-century ceramics.

Bisque porcelain figurines, also known as biscuit porcelain, are unglazed ceramic statues fired twice to achieve a smooth matte finish, widely produced across European manufactories during the late 18th and 19th centuries.

These ornaments were cast from fine kaolin clay paste, poured into plaster moulds, fired without a glossy glaze, and subsequently detailed using cold-painted pigments or gilded highlights.

Period items display a distinct matte texture, crisp hand-finished detail in drapery and facial features, subtle moulding seams, and often impressed maker marks or inventory numbers on the underside.

Position them symmetrically on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or within a glass display cabinet to create a balanced focal point that bridges historical period detail with contemporary room schemes.

Dust surfaces using a soft, dry artist brush; water and liquid detergents should be avoided as unglazed clay and cold-applied paint can absorb moisture or dissolve.
