This eighteenth-century Dutch Delftware shallow bowl is made from tin-glazed ceramic and measures 55 cm high and 29 cm wide. The piece features a white background decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue motifs and iron-red ochre accents, displaying a central urn filled with flowers and a small bird, enclosed within circular borders of fronds hanging in swags and red devices along the rim, which shows minor fritting along its edge. The bowl rests upon a rectangular wooden display stand with a rich brown grain. Suitable for display in a traditional or modern interior, the bowl fits well upon a sideboard top or cabinet shelf as a decorative focal point in a dining room, living area, or hallway. Its classic blue and white colour scheme complements various home decor styles while bringing historical character to domestic spaces.

Delftware is tin-glazed earthenware produced in the Netherlands and the British Isles during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, created to imitate imported Chinese porcelain.

Delftware was crafted from a blend of local and imported clay, coated with an opaque white tin glaze and decorated with metal oxides such as cobalt for blue and iron for red prior to firing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit soft earthenware bodies with small rim chips showing the yellowish clay beneath, hand-painted brushwork with minor inconsistencies, and characteristic glaze pinholes or crazing.

Display shallow bowls and chargers vertically on modern brass stands, arrange them within built-in shelving, or mount them as wall decor alongside minimalist artwork to create visual contrast.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid immersion in water, as unglazed edges or micro-fractures can absorb moisture and damage the glaze layer.
