For Sale by ActFurniture LTD
Description

Vintage 20th century side table in fruitwood, made in the 17th century manner, a handsome and well-proportioned piece of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship and traditional joinery throughout.

This vintage 20th century side table is made in the 17th century revival style from warm brown fruitwood. It features a thick top with a moulded edge, a single full-width frieze drawer fitted with a pair of cast brass drop handles, a central pierced brass escutcheon, four ring-turned legs with block sections and turned bun feet, and a sturdy H-form stretcher. The fruitwood displays a figured grain and a rich golden colour with an aged patina. Measuring 78.5 cm wide, 55.5 cm deep, and 70 cm high, the table is finished on all four sides so it can stand freely in a room. Useful as a lamp table, hall table, or bedside table at the end of a sofa, this piece offers practical storage for keys, post, or table linen. The traditional joinery includes a pegged frieze supporting the top. The timber shows natural variations in grain tone across the drawer front and legs, while the metal hardware has a dark finish. The sturdy base construction ensures stability for daily use in a living room, hallway, or bedroom.

FAQs

Seventeenth-century style furniture features sturdy timber construction, baluster-turned legs, low stretchers, and rich wood finishes, reflecting a transition towards decorative cabinet making.

Fruitwood tables typically incorporate wood from cherry, apple, or pear trees, valued for their fine grain and warm patination, paired with brass fittings.

Revival pieces combine historical elements like turned legs and stretchers with 20th-century construction methods, uniform saw marks, and modern drawer fittings.

Place the table beside seating, pairing its rich wood tones with a minimalist table lamp, neutral upholstery, or ceramic accessories to create visual contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent drying.
