CKB Ltd Emporium & Collectables has dated this Victorian Silver Vesta Case to the 1900s.
Of traditional rectangular form with softly rounded corners, this attractive little match safe features finely engraved scrolling foliage, decorative borders and an elegant diagonal patterned band across the front, together with the original owner’s engraved monogram.

A small suspension ring is fitted to the side, allowing the case to be attached to a pocket-watch chain or carried as a personal accessory.
The inner rim bears a small stamped mark appearing to read R.N.S., although the manufacturer remains unidentified.

Constructed from silver-coloured metal, possibly nickel silver or silver plate, with the precise composition unconfirmed.
Condition: A well-used antique example displaying age-related surface scratches, small dents, patination and wear to the striking surface. The hinged lid closes correctly when properly aligned. The case retains its original decorative character despite signs of prolonged use.

An appealing piece of Victorian social history and a collectable example of an everyday personal accessory from the turn of the 20th century.
