Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian mahogany side table dates from the mid to late 19th century and is finished in a warm brown timber with a rich patina. The piece displays a rectangular top surface bordered by a low curved rear gallery, positioned above two flush-fitting drawers fitted with dark turned wooden knob handles. Below, the framework rests on robust turned tapering legs terminating in small brass castors. Surface signs of age and use include small marks and minor knocks across the wood. Measuring 79 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 49 cm deep, this practical side table functions well placed beside a front door as a convenient drop zone for keys and post, or positioned in a hallway or study against a wall for display and storage.

FAQs

Victorian mahogany side tables emerged during the 19th century as multi-functional furniture pieces for British households, serving as writing surfaces, dressing tables, or hallway consoles. They typically feature dense mahogany timber, turned legs, simple rear galleries, and integrated drawer storage.

These tables were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers over pine frameworks. Secondary elements often include hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, turned wooden knobs, and brass castors fitted to turned legs.

Authentic Victorian pieces display signs of period craftsmanship, such as hand-sawn drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass castors, and natural surface patination. The underside and back boards frequently show unplaned timber or maker stamps.

A Victorian side table functions effectively as an entryway console table, a compact home office desk, or a bedroom dressing table. Combining rich mahogany with neutral wall tones and modern lamps creates balanced contrast in contemporary spaces.

Maintenance requires regular dusting with a dry, soft cloth and periodic application of beeswax polish to nourish the wood surface. Position the piece away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber movement or fading.
