Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian stick stand combines a polished tubular brass frame with a sturdy black cast iron base. The structure relies on four vertical uprights topped with decorative urn-shaped finials, supporting six divided compartments at the top to keep umbrellas and walking sticks upright. The base incorporates a textured cross-hatch pattern inside the removable drip tray to prevent items from slipping. Brass components show a deep shine, complemented by the original patinated finish of the cast iron components. Standing at 61 cm high, 40.5 cm wide, and 20.5 cm deep, the piece offers a practical footprint for everyday placement. Homeowners position this accessory beside the front door or in a hallway to organise wet-weather gear upon entering the house, bringing traditional English country house character to entranceways while maintaining functional storage for daily use.

FAQs

Developed during the 19th and early 20th centuries, stick stands were created to hold walking canes and umbrellas in residential entryways. Brass frames combined with heavy cast iron bases provided stability and collected water drips.

These items typically feature tubular brass upper frames joined with threaded joints or solder, elevated on a weighted cast iron base designed with a recessed drip tray.

Authentic period examples display cast iron bases often bearing cast pattern numbers, natural oxidisation on unlacquered brass, threaded finials, and substantial overall weight compared to modern reproductions.

Position the stand in an entryway, porch, or hallway alongside a console table to maintain functional organisation while adding historical character to the space.

Clean the brass framework with a dry microfibre cloth or appropriate metal polish depending on whether a patinated or bright finish is desired. Keep the cast iron base dry to prevent rust formation.
