This Art Deco figure group sculpture entitled 'Départ Pour La Chasse' originates from France around 1930. The piece depicts a huntress wearing a green jacket, matching skirt and hat with dark yellow boots and gloves, holding a shotgun over her shoulder while two hunting dogs walk beside her on an oval alabaster and black slate base. The sculpture is cast in spelter with a cold-painted finish, an ivorine head, and a small metal title plaque attached to the front. Paintwork wear is present on the dogs, showing signs of age. Measuring 43 cm high, 49.5 cm wide and 20.5 cm deep, this sculpture fits well on a mantelpiece in a living room, study or hallway. The warm brown tones of the dogs complement the green and cream palette of the figures and base.

Art Deco figure groups from the 1930s typically display streamlined geometric forms, stylized human figures, and active sporting subjects such as hunting or athletics. They reflect the aesthetic shift towards modernity, speed, and elegant simplicity that defined the interwar period.

Sculptures from this period were frequently cast in spelter or bronze, often finished with patinated or cold-painted surfaces. These figures were usually mounted on composite bases made from veined marble, alabaster, or onyx.

Authentic pieces exhibit age-appropriate wear to the painted or patinated metal finish, sharp casting details along the seams, and period-correct multi-layer marble or alabaster bases. Original metal brass plaques with French titles are also key indicators.

A large figure group functions well as a focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or wide bookshelf. Pairing the sculpture with clean, contemporary lines or darker wood furniture highlights its historic silhouette.

Dust the sculpture regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid chemical cleaning agents or abrasive liquids, as these can strip the original patination from the metal and etch the surface of the marble base.
