This early 19th century Regency side table is made from dark brown rosewood with brass hardware. The round piece has a removable circular top set inside a heavily moulded rim, supported by a tapered column pedestal with lappet and petal carving above a triform base. Scroll-carved feet fitted with small brass castors anchor the triangular floor-standing design, displaying visible surface grain patterns across the timber and minor wear along the edge of the rim. Measuring 74 cm high by 35 cm wide and 35 cm deep, it provides a compact surface area for a cup or lamp. Position this small occasional table at the end of a sofa in a living room, hallway or study where space is limited.

Wine tables and candle stands became prominent in the late 18th and early 19th centuries during the Georgian and Regency periods. Designed as compact, portable occasional tables, they were placed alongside seating to hold drinks, candles, or reading materials in formal saloons and drawing rooms.

Tables from this period were predominantly constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often featuring rich rosewood veneers over oak or pine carcases. Construction techniques included hand-turned central columns, hand-cut joinery, and weighted triform or tripod bases for stability.

Authentic pieces display thick, hand-sawn veneers, subtle irregularities in hand-carved details, and historical wear patterns on the base and rim. Inspecting the underside reveals hand-cut screws, period glue blocks, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.

A small rosewood table functions effectively as an end table beside a modern armchair or sofa, providing a subtle contrast in texture and tone. It can also serve as a plant stand or lamp table in an entrance hallway or reading nook.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, avoiding modern silicone sprays, and position the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent veneer lifting.
