Popularised during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, wine tables were compact, light furniture pieces designed to sit beside armchairs to hold a wine glass, decanter, or candle.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and yew wood, often incorporating turned central pedestals with ebonised detailing and splayed tripod bases.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-turned baluster stems, hand-cut dovetails or block joins beneath the top, original iron underside fixings, and uneven natural patination across the timber.

These versatile tables function effectively as occasional drinks tables beside a modern sofa, as understated lamp stands in a reading corner, or positioned in a hallway to display smaller decorative objects.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or discolouration, and clean regularly using a dry microfibre cloth followed by an occasional application of beeswax.
