This original antique engraved road map dates from the Georgian period and measures 27 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 0.02 cm deep. Produced on paper with ink and watercolour materials, the sheet presents a cream background with hand-coloured regional boundaries in pink, green, and yellow tones. Detailed engraved lettering displays travel routes, town names, and distance scales across the counties of Middlesex, Hertfordshire, Huntingdon, and Lincoln. Visible signs of age include overall age toning, vertical and horizontal folds, surface creasing, edge wear, small tears, and a central horizontal repair line. The publishing details at the bottom note Laurie and Whittle of Fleet Street, London, alongside the 1821 edition date. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library or study, this antique piece fits well upon a narrow wall space. Framed behind glass, the map hangs effectively in a hallway, home office, or reading room where close inspection of the coaching-road information and historical geography is possible. The historic character and muted hand-coloured details complement traditional interiors, historical collections, and cartography displays.

A Regency road map is an engraved cartographic print created during the early 19th century, designed to show travel routes, coaching stops, and distances between major towns across Great Britain.

Early 19th-century maps were typically copperplate engravings printed onto rag paper and finished with hand-applied watercolour washes to delineate county boundaries and travel routes.

Authentic Georgian maps show evidence of copperplate plate marks around the border, chain lines within handmade paper, age-appropriate toning, and hand-applied coloured outlines.

Frame the map using conservation-grade UV-protective glass and a simple dark wood or gilded frame, then hang it within a study, hallway, or reading nook to add historical context to a room scheme.

Keep the paper print away from direct sunlight and areas of high humidity, ensure it is mounted using acid-free materials, and store or display it flat within a climate-controlled space.
