Originating in the late 19th century as a reaction against industrial mass production, Arts and Crafts furniture emphasises hand craftsmanship, structural honesty, and natural materials like solid oak. Designs feature clear geometric forms, visible joinery, and functional aesthetics.

Traditionally crafted from solid hardwoods such as English oak, mahogany, or walnut, these tables feature a circular top supported by a central column and a tripod base. Construction relies on mortise and tenon joints, pegged supports, and turned timber components.

Look for solid oak construction displaying prominent grain patterns, clean geometric lines, and simple turned or carved elements. Authentic period pieces typically show signs of traditional joinery techniques, hand-finishing, and natural patination across the timber surfaces.

Position the table beside an armchair or sofa as a functional surface for drinks or books. Its compact footprint and warm timber tone complement neutral upholstery, creating an understated focal point in a reading nook or living room alcove.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or surface fading.
