Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This coffee table dates from 1940 in a French Neoclassical style. The piece comprises a rectangular clear glass top set within a gilded wrought iron frame, supported by four tapered legs and a curved stretcher base. The metal structure displays an aged gold leaf finish with visible use marks on the original glass insert. The entire item measures 40 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 113 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a formal reception room or drawing room, the table functions as a central surface for books, drinks, or decorative objects. The compact proportions allow it to sit comfortably in front of a sofa or a pair of armchairs, adding a refined architectural element to an interior scheme through its metallic tones and transparent top.

FAQs

French mid-century gilded iron furniture is distinguished by hand-forged metal frames, Neoclassical proportions, and gold leaf finishing. Designers of this era emphasised linear elegance, geometric stretchers, and integrated glass tops to create open, airy structures.

Neoclassical metal tables traditionally feature wrought iron or brass structural frames finished with hand-applied gold leaf or gilt lacquer. Surface tops typically consist of inset toughened glass, marble, or polished stone.

Authentic pieces exhibit visible forge marks, welded or riveted construction joins, and multi-layered patination on the gilded finish. The weight of hand-wrought iron and the precise fit of the inset glass frame also indicate high-grade manufacturing.

A gilded iron coffee table introduces metallic warmth and structural formality to contemporary living spaces. Position the piece centrally against neutral linen upholstery or dark timber floorboards to accentuate the reflective gold frame and glass top.

Clean the metal frame using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid lifting the delicate gold leaf finish. Glass surfaces should be cleaned with a dedicated glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed directly near the gilt iron frame.
