Chinese Qing Dynasty Famille Rose Porcelain | Late Yongzheng / Early Qianlong Period | Circa 1740
The dish features an attractive scalloped or lobed edge and is richly decorated in the characteristic Famille Rose enamel palette with a charming naturalistic scene of birds, a duck and a stork, surrounded by flowering chrysanthemum, peony and water lily.
The combination of birds and flowers creates a particularly attractive and decorative composition, demonstrating the detailed painting and enamel work associated with 18th-century Chinese export and domestic porcelain.
The large circular dish has a distinctive scalloped rim finished in pale brown, adding definition to the form and complementing the colourful Famille Rose decoration.
Condition
The dish has one professionally sealed hairline, which is visible on inspection. There is no other known damage or restoration. There is also minor loss to the enamel in one or two small areas, consistent with the age and use of an approximately 18th-century porcelain piece.
