Miles Griffiths Antiques Ltd has dated this 17th Century Oak Livery Cupboard to the 17th Century.
Originally used to store some food and drink inside, to be eaten during the night, on waking before their second sleep, when people used to go to sleep when it became dark, they woke after midnight (the first sleep), to eat and often to tend their livestock which were usually below them in stalls or near them, before going back to bed for their second sleep. This is a beautiful original example with turned oak spindles, an opening central door section and oak boarded top and bottom. Also known as a Dole cupboard, this example is to be wall hung, to keep the food inside safe. English and dating to around 1650.
