A swagger stick is a short cane or riding crop traditionally carried by military officers as a symbol of authority and rank, originating in Western armed forces during the nineteenth century.

Victorian swagger sticks were commonly crafted from hard woods such as malacca, bamboo, or ebony, often fitted with precious metal caps made of sterling silver, nickel, or hallmarked gold.

Authentic pieces from the Victorian era typically feature British assay hallmarks stamped on the gold mount, precise craftsmanship around set gemstones, and natural age-related wear on the shaft.

Antique swagger sticks are frequently mounted on custom wall brackets, arranged inside glazed display cabinets, or placed within an umbrella stand in a foyer.

Keep the item in a humidity-controlled environment away from direct heat sources, wipe the wood shaft with a dry microfibre cloth, and polish the gold mount gently using a specialist metal cloth.
