Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Canterbury is a low, compartmentalised piece of furniture created to hold sheet music, loose papers, or periodicals. Named after the Archbishop of Canterbury who commissioned the original design in the late eighteenth century, it remained a popular accent piece throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Edwardian Canterburys were typically crafted from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut. Construction features frequently include hand-cut dovetail joints on lower drawers, turned corner posts, carved side panels, and brass castors or drawer pulls.

Authentic Edwardian pieces dating from 1901 to 1910 display aged oxidation on the timber, natural wear patterns to the base, and period-correct joinery such as machine- or hand-cut dovetails. Original hardware typically consists of cast brass drawer pulls without modern cross-head screws.

In modern interiors, a Canterbury functions efficiently beside a sofa or armchair as a magazine holder or book store. It can also be placed near a turntable setup to organize vinyl records while retaining historical context.

Maintain antique oak by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber shrinkage or cracking.
