Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Umbrella stands became essential domestic furnishings during the nineteenth century as steel-ribbed umbrellas and walking sticks gained widespread popularity. Foundry production enabled manufacturers to combine decorative brass tubing with heavy cast iron bases designed to collect rainwater.

Authentic period umbrella stands typically combine tubular or cast brass frames with heavy cast iron drip pans at the base. The weight of the cast iron provides stability to balance long umbrellas and walking canes.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature heavy cast iron base trays, brazed or threaded brass joins, and original patinated surfaces. Look for cast iron underside details, period division rings, and ball finials fixed with threaded rods rather than modern screws.

Place the stand near the primary entryway or boot room to provide functional storage for umbrellas and walking sticks. The metallic brass tones pair effectively alongside contemporary console tables, painted timber panelling, or minimalist stone flooring.

Clean the brass frame periodically with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, applying un-lacquered metal polish only if a bright finish is desired. Keep the cast iron drip tray clean and dry to prevent moisture buildup and surface rust.
