Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table with drawers, originating in the 18th century, designed primarily as a dressing table or side table. Georgian examples are typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak or walnut and feature a three-drawer layout with decorative aprons.

18th-century lowboys were predominantly constructed from solid oak or walnut using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Drawers were joined with hand-cut dovetails, fitted with cast brass drop handles or brass backplates, and supported on hand-shaped timber legs.

Authentic pieces display hand-sawn timber marks on the back panels and drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints of irregular proportions, and wooden peg fixings. Oxidisation around original brass hardware and uneven wear patterns on the drawer runners also indicate genuine period construction.

An antique lowboy serves as a functional statement piece in a hallway as an entryway table, in a living room as a side console, or in a bedroom as a compact dressing table or vanity desk.

Maintain antique oak by applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the patina. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, splitting, or colour fading.
