This Georgian walnut side table is a George II period three-drawer piece in a rich warm brown colour. The timber shows burr walnut veneer with a quarter-veneered top, crossbanding, and a moulded outer edge. The front displays two smaller upper drawers above one full-width lower drawer, complete with brass swan-neck handles, moulded drawer edges, small corbel brackets beneath the apron, and straight legs with chamfered inner profiles. The visual details include the distinctive grain pattern of the burl veneer, the polished finish of the wood, and the cast brass metalwork against the darker panels. Measuring 72.5 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, this side table fits well beside the front door in a hallway, or in a living room to hold small everyday items.

Georgian walnut side tables, often referred to as lowboys, were prominent during the 18th century. They typically feature figured walnut or burr walnut veneers, brass swan-neck handles, and a configuration of multiple drawers supported by tapered or cabriole legs.

These tables were constructed primarily from solid walnut and burr walnut veneers laid over secondary timbers such as oak or pine. Hardware usually consisted of cast brass drop handles with decorative backplates and iron or steel drawer locks.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, signs of hand-planing on secondary woods, and natural age-related shrinkage in the timber. Original brassware will show subtle hand-finishing variations and irregular threads on the fixing nuts.

A Georgian side table functions well as an entryway hall table, a compact home office desk, or an accent table in a living area. Combining its rich timber figure with modern lighting or contemporary artwork creates a balanced visual contrast.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent drying and veneer lifting. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cloth, buffing gently in the direction of the wood grain.
