This 19th-century European hard-paste porcelain figurine from Meissen depicts a multi-coloured parrot perched on a white tree trunk pedestal. The hand-painted plumage features vibrant green, yellow, black, and blue enamel glazes, complemented by applied red cherries and green foliage on the branches, plus small brown mushrooms at the base. The glossy glazed sculpture stands 26 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 13 cm deep, and rests upon an irregular rounded foot. Positioned on a mantelpiece, this ornamental study brings classical porcelain artistry into a contemporary interior. The bird grasps a white treat in its talons near its grey beak, while its long yellow tail feather extends downward alongside the support. The detailed botanical and avian motifs provide a striking display element suited to traditional and eclectic living spaces.

FAQs

Meissen began producing naturalistic bird figurines in the early 18th century, pioneering European hard-paste porcelain production. Sculpters such as Johann Joachim Kandler created detailed avian models inspired by royal menageries, which remained in production throughout the 19th century.
