Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A centre table is a substantial piece of furniture designed to sit in the middle of a hallway, salon, or drawing room during the Victorian era. These tables often featured decorative tilt-top mechanisms, allowing them to be tilted vertically and moved aside when additional space was required.

Early Victorian centre tables were commonly constructed using high-quality hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut. Decorative surfaces were crafted using book-matched veneers over solid timber cores, supported by carved pedestals and brass casters.

Authentic pieces from this period exhibit precise joinery, smoothly functioning tilt-top catches, and detailed carving on the pedestal base and feet. Stamped maker marks on the underside or structural frame, along with dense timber, indicate manufacture by cabinetmakers such as Gillows.

A rosewood centre table serves as an anchor in an entrance hall or formal dining space. Positioned under a contemporary lighting fixture or paired with modern dining chairs, the rich grain provides visual contrast against minimalist architecture.

Rosewood surfaces require protection from direct sunlight, extreme humidity shifts, and moisture to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Regular dusting with a soft dry cloth and an occasional application of natural beeswax maintains the original finish.
