Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region of Japan and was historically exported to Europe through the port of Imari. It is renowned for its distinctive colour palette, featuring underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red and gold enamel on a white porcelain body.

Imari ceramics are crafted from fine kaolin porcelain clay, fired at high temperatures for durability. The process involves initial underglaze painted decoration in cobalt blue, followed by clear glazing, re-firing, and subsequent hand-application of enamel paints and gilt detailing before a final low-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces display hand-painted brushwork with slight variations, a lobed or scalloped rim structure, and characteristic floral or panelled compositions. Look for natural wear to the overglaze red enamel or gilding, along with traditional blue ring markings or signatures on the underside.

An Imari bowl functions exceptionally well as a centrepiece on a dining table, console, or sideboard. The deep blue and rich rust tones contrast elegantly against natural dark wood surfaces, polished marble, or contemporary neutral backdrops.

Hand wash the porcelain gently using warm water and a mild dishwashing detergent with a non-abrasive soft cloth. Avoid dishwashers, harsh chemical cleansers, and abrasive sponges to protect delicate overglaze enamels and gilding from fading or scratching.
