This Regency fruitwood goblet dates from the early nineteenth century in England. Turned from cherry wood, it displays a dark brown polished finish with a natural aged patina, a wide funnel-shaped bowl, an unusual central ball knop on the stem, and incised double ring decoration above a wide flared circular base. The piece measures 17.8 cm high, 9.1 cm wide, and 9.1 cm deep in practical terms. In a home today, this decorative object suits placement on a bookshelf in a gentleman's library. The turned circular base, dark brown timber colour, and incised double ring decoration are visible details that complete the traditional Regency style.

A Regency fruitwood goblet is a hand-turned wooden drinking vessel crafted in Britain during the early 19th century, typically created by woodturners using timber from fruit-bearing trees such as apple, pear, or cherry.

These items were predominantly turned on a lathe from dense hardwoods, specifically fruitwoods like pearwood or applewood, which allowed for fine detail, smooth finishing, and long-lasting durability.

Authentic pieces feature subtle lathe marks, slight asymmetry resulting from natural wood shrinkage across centuries, and a deep patina created by age and handling that modern finishes cannot replicate.

An antique wooden goblet works well styled on a dark wood bookshelf, mantelpiece, or arranged alongside ceramics and glassware on a sideboard.

Keep the item away from direct heat sources and humid environments to prevent timber movement; clean gently with a dry lint-free cloth and periodically apply a light coat of beeswax polish.
