This George IV freestanding oak skittles game table dates from the 19th century and brings traditional parlour entertainment to a modern interior. The dark brown timber finish showcases natural grain alongside a raised oak rim, a wraparound gallery, brass boundary rails, and internal brass game guides supporting shaped sections of metal rods, capped arches, bells, wooden skittles, and a spinning top. The rectangular lift-off top rests on a deep frieze supported by four turned and fluted legs with ring turned details, while one end includes a metal loading bracket. Measuring 186 cm high by 165 cm wide and 68 cm deep, the piece works well as a striking games table or decorative centrepiece within a gentleman's library, study, or games room. Traditional design and clever engineering combine to make this table both a functional pastime and a distinctive conversation starter. The open play surface allows users to operate the loading bracket and knock over the skittles to strike the bells, testing skill and precision. Sturdy construction ensures it stands firmly on the floor while displaying intricate metalwork and timber mouldings. Placing it in a large reception room, library, or entertaining space creates an engaging activity centre that complements period furniture collections while offering interactive enjoyment for guests.

A George IV skittles game table is a nineteenth-century freestanding gaming surface produced during the reign of King George IV (18201830), designed for indoor parlour or tavern entertainment using wooden pins and brass mechanisms.

Traditional skittles tables were constructed using solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, paired with turned wooden components, brass tracks, brass bells, and metal structural joinery.

Authentic period tables display hand-turned fluted legs, hand-cut joinery, natural timber oxidisation, period-appropriate brass fittings, and signs of functional wear across the playing surface.

A freestanding game table serves as a decorative focal point in a library, hallway, or study, providing historical interest alongside solid oak craftsmanship.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators, wipe surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish periodically to protect the oak grain.
