We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, wooden garden wheelbarrows were handmade by village wheelwrights and carpenters for agricultural and estate gardening tasks. These utilitarian items were built with solid timber frames and featured spoked wooden wheels, frequently painted to protect the wood from moisture.

Traditional wheelbarrows were constructed using durable hardwoods such as oak or ash for the structural frame, softwoods for the side paneling, and wrought iron for support stays, wheel tyres, and joinery fixings.

Authentic 19th-century barrows feature hand-planed timber, mortise and tenon joinery, hand-forged iron bracing, and a spoked wooden wheel bound by an iron rim. Look for authentic weathering, historical paint layers, and signs of manual forging rather than modern uniform fixings.

Antique wheelbarrows function as decorative garden planters, courtyard focal points, or feature pieces in conservatories. Filling the main trough with potted seasonal flowers introduces vibrant botanical colour while highlighting the historic painted timber.

To preserve painted timber outdoors, position the item on a well-drained surface such as gravel or paving to prevent rot from standing water. Apply microcrystalline wax or a clear breathable sealer annually, and store the piece under cover during extreme winter conditions.
