This large late 19th-century Meissen porcelain figurine depicts a parrot perched on a naturalistic tree stump. The piece is rendered in a polychrome palette featuring bold orange, deep blue, and green enamel glazes, complemented by grey plumage on the head, a curved beige beak, and a detailed glossy finish. Visible decorative elements include moulded feather textures across the wings, a perching pose with visible claws grasping the wood, and two small cherries tucked against the trunk. The base bears the blue crossed swords Meissen marking. The figurine measures 43 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. Today, this decorative item serves as a focal display piece suited for placement on a sideboard top or within a sunlit conservatory. It provides a classic example of 19th-century German ceramic craftsmanship and integrates well into traditional or eclectic interior schemes as a standalone tabletop sculpture or cabinet accent.

Meissen began producing naturalistic porcelain bird sculptures in the 18th century under master modeller Johann Joachim Kandler. By the late 19th century, the manufactory continued this tradition, crafting detailed, hand-painted avian figures that were sought after across Europe as symbols of craftsmanship and luxury.

These sculptures were crafted from hard-paste porcelain composed of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz. After initial moulding and assembly, the figures underwent high-temperature kiln firing before skilled artisans applied polychrome enamel glazes by hand, followed by additional low-temperature firings to set the colours.

Authentic pieces feature the factorys signature blue underglaze crossed swords mark on the underside. Look for impressed model numbers, precise incised details, hand-moulded plumage, and a crisp, high-quality paint application characteristic of the Meissen workshop.

A substantial porcelain figure serves as a focal point when placed on a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or inside a glass display cabinet. Grouping the item with contemporary art or botanical elements creates an engaging contrast between historical craft and modern interiors.

Dust the porcelain regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a fine camel-hair brush. Avoid chemical cleaners, immersion in water, or abrasive materials, as these can wear away the delicate overglaze enamels.
