This Regency style mahogany drum table dates from the 19th century and measures 77 cm high, 120 cm wide, and 120 cm deep. The circular piece displays a dark brown mahogany frame holding an inset green leather top, with a combination of working and faux frieze drawers fitted with small wooden turned knob handles and brass key escutcheons. The cylindrical body rests on a turned central pedestal with reeded rings, leading down to a triform base decorated with a carved gadrooned edge and scroll feet. In a contemporary home, this table serves as a centre table in a living room, a statement library piece, or a spacious desk in a home study. The round top provides ample surface space for books, lamps, or writing materials, while the multiple drawers offer practical storage for stationery and small items. The rich timber tones and classic Regency silhouette suit traditional interiors as well as transitional spaces looking for a functional antique furniture focal point.

A drum table, also known as a rent table or library table, is a circular pedestal table designed with a deep frieze containing multiple drawers. Popularised during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these tables often feature a central leather writing surface and were traditionally used for organizing paperwork, collecting rent, or studying.

Regency drum tables were predominantly crafted from high-grade timbers such as dense mahogany or rosewood, often featuring crossbanded borders. The writing surface was usually inset with tool-gilded or blind-stamped leather, while drawers were constructed with pine or oak linings, cast brass handles or turned wooden knobs, and central turned pedestal bases.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-cut dovetail joints on frieze drawers, original tool marks on the underside, and natural timber shrinkage, often creating slightly oval tops over time. Look for genuine age-related patination on the mahogany, authentic lock mechanisms, and a heavy, solid central pedestal base with hand-carved details.

A drum table works as a focal centrepiece in an entrance hall, home library, or formal living room. Position it centrally beneath a light fixture or alongside modern upholstered seating, using the circular top to display books, ceramics, or lamps while preserving its functionality as a writing workspace.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the mahogany. Keep the inset leather surface clean by wiping with a slightly damp cloth, applying specialized leather conditioner periodically, and keeping the table away from direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent cracking and fading.
