Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This English painted server table dates from the 1920 period and follows an English country style. Constructed from pine with iron hardware and painted finishes, the piece displays a taupe top set above a dark grey body featuring two drawers, dark metal drop handles, a low stretcher base, and square legs. The paintwork shows visible distress and wear along the edges, revealing the timber beneath. Practical dimensions measure 76 cm high, 135 cm wide, and 25 cm deep. Position this console table in a hallway, living room, or dining area to provide surface space and drawer storage. The rustic farmhouse aesthetic suits traditional or eclectic interiors, offering a functional furniture piece for everyday use.

FAQs

An English painted server is a long, narrow table traditionally used in dining rooms or kitchens for serving food and storing cutlery or linens. Often constructed from pine or secondary hard woods, these utilitarian tables were finished with paint to protect the timber surface.

Country servers were predominantly built using locally sourced softwoods like pine, or hardwoods like oak and ash. The frames were typically joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, topped with layered oil-based paints and fitted with iron or brass drop handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit uneven surface wear consistent with age, particularly around drawer handles, corners, and lower stretchers. Natural paint crazing, historical paint layers, hand-cut dovetail joints, and hand-forged metal hardware further indicate genuine period construction.

A painted server serves as a functional anchor piece in an entryway, dining area, or behind a modern sofa. Modern styling often pairs the muted painted timber with sleek contemporary ceramics, artwork, or table lamps to create visual contrast.

Distressed painted surfaces should be dusted regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleansers or excess water, and apply a clear neutral microcrystalline wax occasionally to protect the painted finish without altering its colour or patina.
