Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table fitted with drawers, originating in the 18th century during the William and Mary, Queen Anne, and Georgian periods. It was traditionally used as a dressing table or vanity in bedrooms, as well as a side table in principal living spaces.

Authentic 18th-century lowboys were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, walnut, or oak. Key construction hallmarks include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak or pine secondary woods, hand-carved cabriole legs, and cast brass handle plates.

Authentic George III pieces exhibit signs of natural aging, such as oxidisation on drawer linings, uneven hand-planed backboards, and wear around the feet. The brass hardware should show hand-finishing, and the drawer runners will display genuine friction wear from centuries of use.

A mahogany lowboy functions exceptionally well as a hallway console table, bedside table, or focal accent piece in an entryway. Pair it with a modern contemporary mirror above the top surface and minimalist ceramic table lamps to balance historical character with modern design.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat radiators to prevent the timber from warping or drying out.
