A Regency Chinese Export black and gilt lacquer work table, retaining its original rectangular hinged top decorated with chinoiserie scenes and opening to reveal a fitted interior with lidded compartments.
Originally intended as a work or sewing table, the piece combines decorative appeal with practical storage. The richly decorated lacquered surfaces and compact proportions make it equally suitable as a lamp table, side table or occasional table.

CONDITION
The table is in good, solid condition and presents well overall. There are marks, knocks and scratches consistent with its age and use. The lacquered decoration shows areas of wear and loss, particularly around the edge of the top, together with rubbing to the gilt decoration. The original external hinges are no longer functional, although the later butt hinges operate correctly. There is no key, although the lid is not locked. The original fabric work bag is no longer present, and the later-painted secret compartment has been fixed closed. Overall, the table remains an attractive and usable Regency example with honest signs of age and use.
As with all antique and vintage furniture, this piece has been used and enjoyed over many years and should be expected to show signs of age and use.
