Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Chestnut baskets were popularised in 18th-century England, primarily crafted from creamware or Queens ware. Designed with openwork reticulation, they allowed steam to escape while serving warm roasted chestnuts during dessert courses.

Reticulated creamware is composed of refined lead-glazed earthenware. The lattice design was created by hand-piercing the wet clay using specialised metal punches before firing and glazing.

Authentic Georgian pieces often feature precise hand-cut perforations, light body weight, and an impressed mark on the underside. The lead glaze typically exhibits a soft cream tone with slight pooling in crevices.

Position the basket as a centrepiece on a dining table, console, or sideboard to highlight its structural silhouette. It can remain empty to display the pierced lattice pattern or hold neutral decorative objects.

Dust gently with a soft dry brush to clean within the lattice piercings. Avoid immersing pierced earthenware in water or using harsh chemical cleaners, as unglazed areas within hairline cracks can absorb moisture.
