This Georgian tilt-top tripod table belongs to the eighteenth century and brings classic English Country House style to living spaces today. Made from mahogany with a dark brown timber colour and warm polish finish, the piece is well suited for placement at the end of a sofa to hold drinks, lamps or decorative objects. The round circular top rests on a sturdy turned central column decorated with a spiral carved knop, leading down to three elegant cabriole legs that terminate in smooth pad feet. Visible details include the smooth wood grain across the circular surface and the traditional joinery where the pedestal meets the curved legs. The entire table stands at a height of 74 cm with a diameter of 74 cm, offering a practical surface area without dominating the room. Natural signs of age appear as gentle surface wear and minor variations in the timber tone accumulated over generations of use.

Originating in the 18th century, a tilt top table features a hinged circular or rectangular top mounted on a central turned pillar and three cabriole legs, designed to be tilted vertically and stored against a room perimeter when not in active use.

These tables were typically crafted from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, featuring hand-turned pedestal columns, hand-cut dovetail blocks underneath the top, and hand-fitted cabriole legs secured with mortise and tenon joints or iron brackets.

Authentic period examples display hand-planed underside timber surfaces, original wrought-iron or brass catch mechanisms, age-appropriate wear around the pivot hinge, and dense, dark mahogany timber with natural oxidisation.

Position the piece as an occasional side table beside upholstered seating, or situate it in a reading nook or window bay to introduce rich wood tones and historical structure into contemporary decorative schemes.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent wood shrinkage and finish deterioration.
