This pair of Georgian mahogany wine tables dates from c.1820 and originates from converted Regency period pole screens. Each table is fashioned from dark brown mahogany with a smooth polished finish and stands 70 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 23.5 cm deep. The design incorporates an octagonal top inset with floral needlepoint tapestry featuring shades of beige, red, green, and blue within a patterned border. A slender, ring-turned pedestal stem supports each top, rising from tripod downswept legs terminating in scrolled feet. Suitable for placement at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair, these side tables function practically for holding drinks or small decorative items in a living room, drawing room, or study. The traditional English country house aesthetic integrates comfortably into both historic and contemporary interior schemes. The restoration work preserves the original tapestries while ensuring the structure stands firmly on the gravel surface shown, maintaining a clean presentation ready for domestic placement.

Georgian wine tables, popular in 18th-century Britain, are defined by their compact proportions, tripod bases, and turned central pedestals designed to hold drinks or light sources.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as Cuban mahogany or walnut, occasionally featuring decorative textile or needlepoint inserts on the tops.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved turned stems, hand-dovetailed or pegged joinery, natural timber shrinkage on octagonal or round tops, and genuine age-related wear to the original finish.

Place them alongside contemporary armchairs, at the ends of a sofa, or within empty alcoves to provide functional surfaces for drinks while introducing historical texture.

Keep the wood nourished with high-grade beeswax polish, avoid direct sunlight to protect needlepoint fibres from fading, and dust the fabric gently with a soft brush.
